Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization founded by retired nurses. They had a burning desire to utilise their expertise and experience gained over decades of providing care to the sick, and managing hospitals and health centres throughout Botswana.
The organisation was officially registered as a society in 2003. The retired nurses’ desire to contribute was spurred by the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic. It also coincided with the then Presidential Declaration of war against HIV and AIDS.
The retired nurses therefore introduced the Community Relief Day Care Centre in Tlokweng. Its aim is to provide comprehensive care and support to People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) and those with chronic illnesses, as well as Orphan and Vulnerable children.
This was done through a holistic approach that involved working with the family unit and providing integrated services. BORNUS carries out various work within the community, namely, HIV counselling and testing, Wellness Services, Palliative Care and Home based Care, Youth Group and Afternoon Tuition, Grandmother’s Support Group and Developmental Stimulation through our Day Care Centre.
Lady Khama Charitable Trust is proud to support BORNUS as it signifies and contribute to giving all people dignity.
